Simply defined, a life hack is a short-cut or trick that may help you in performing day-to-day tasks in an efficient manner.
Reddit is an online discussion platform where niche forums have been dedicated to certain topics and people share their personal experiences or opinions with each other. Today we will be discussing some life hacks from Reddit and how helpful they can prove to be in everyday life.
Easily access to things in your overstuffed fridge
One of the life hacks shared was to place a rotating tray (the one which is usually used to serve food at table tops during parties) in your refrigerator.
The image below will help you understand how it will allow you to easily reach the food item you are looking for without having to fidget around and remove the items placed in front. It will also serve as a food organizer.
This hack seems to be amongst the most useful one and is definitely worth a try.
A new method of cleaning white shoes
One person shared a video on Reddit lifehacks forum where he was cleaning white shoes by ironing them!
He did this by using a spare piece of white cloth. He first soaked it in water and drained it properly. Then, placed the wet cloth on his shoe and turned on the iron to press the piece of cloth.
The heat from the iron allowed dirt from the shoe to get stuck on the cloth, leaving the shoe clean and smooth.
However, we are not sure if this is a safe technique and would suggest trying it at your own risk.
When you don’t feel like studying but you have exams
When discussing life hacks for our everyday activities, how can we forget students! Someone shared that when they need to learn about a particular topic or complete an assignment related to it, but they do not feel motivated enough to pick up the notes or textbook, they open a podcast or YouTube video related to the topic.
This way of learning not only grasps their attention instantly but also makes the process of learning fun.
The best alternative to a ruler
How many times when it comes to buying clothes for your children, or covers for your dining table or order curtains for your living room, you are clueless about the sizes merely because you did not have anything to measure, or you are unable to explain the shop owner in definite values?
One of the most interesting life hacks shared on Reddit was to memorize the measurements with reference to your palm, i.e. using a ruler or other device to check which measurement fell where according to the length of your fingers and palm, and then use it as a key to be able to identify the size of almost anything without needing any measuring device.
Well, this technique does require a bit of initial hard work, but is likely to help you come up with realistic estimates with reference to the sizes of household hosiery.
Avoiding dust when drilling
We all need to use a drill machine every now and then, whether for repair work or to drill a hole in the wall to hang a painting or photograph.
Despite its usability, there are two things everyone generally dislikes about using a drill machine – first being the loud noise and second the dust which comes out from the hole and spreads around in all directions – thus causing the entire room/hall to need a clean-up.
A useful life hack is to penetrate a plastic cup through the nozzle of the drill machine which may result in the dust accumulating in the cup rather than spreading around.
What to do if your flight does not have entertainment options?
Whereas, an in-flight entertainment screen is an essential feature of most international flights, it may not be present on domestic flights or budget airlines. The only option one is left in such a situation is to use their cell phone.
One Reddit user took the concept of creating opportunities to a whole new level by wrapping his/her mobile phone in a plastic bag and hanging it to the front seat with the screen facing the user.
Well, why carry the phone in your hands when you can mount it somewhere!
How to deal with a lid that won`t open?
How many times have you faced a situation where you need to serve the guests something from a container, or use an ingredient in one of your recipes, but the lid from the jar won’t come off?
Rather than juggling with the container, an easy life hack shared at Reddit is to pour hot water on the container for a very short period of time-say 30 seconds, immediately dry the jar and try to remove the lid, you would be surprised how easily it comes off.
There are multiple life hacks like these that we should all be aware of. Not only do they help us do our daily tasks efficiently, but also simplify many processes.
As the famous quote says “knowledge increases by sharing but not by saving”, therefore if you are aware of any life hacks that you find helpful, do share them with friends and in turn learn about theirs.
